About the Band
Northern District is a collaboration between friends; it is a project that began as one thing and ended as something entirely different.
Northern District is Derek Walker, Rachel Higuera, and Cameron Jaymes joining efforts, much like Voltron, to save the world.
Northern District performs experimental American ghost music; that may not have been a term up until this point, but we like it, so we're keeping it.
Northern District is the sound of a community forming.
Derek played guitar and sang. Rachel sang as well. Cameron played piano and did technical things that you don't even know about. Eric Watson played bass on all of the songs, all in one afternoon, for the price of a couple of tacos. Aaron DiMauro played drums and slept on our floor. Jonathan Meek played trumpet. Chris Pedro mastered the entire thing, not to mention lent extremely valuable moral support throughout the whole thing. A small choir of friends joined in when needed. Jason Kleist washed dishes in the background; while this did not contribute, per se, it certainly bears repeating, because all the dishes are now clean.
Northern District's self-titled EP combines the most agreeable parts of Iron & Wine, Gillian Welch, Elvis Costello, Elliott Smith, and Wilco. Or, at least, we'd like to believe it does; maybe you'd be better off hearing for yourself.
